Our commitment to respecting indigenous rights and ensuring transparent community consultations
At AEP Nusantara Plantations, we are committed to upholding the principles of Free, Prior and Informed Consent (FPIC) as enshrined in the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP). This framework allows indigenous communities to give or withhold consent to projects that may affect their lands, territories, and resources.
Consent given without coercion, intimidation, or manipulation
Consent sought sufficiently in advance of any authorization or commencement of activities
Information provided covering all relevant aspects of the project
Collective decision by indigenous peoples' legitimate representatives
We strongly oppose any form of land grabbing or forceful eviction of indigenous and local communities from their lands.
All sacred and customary lands are protected and preserved out of respect for local inhabitants.
We uphold UNDRIP and ILO Indigenous and Tribal Peoples Convention (No. 169) in all community engagements.
All land transfer agreements are documented and witnessed by relevant stakeholders and government officials.
Identify local communities and map their territories whenever a new location permit is granted
Conduct transparent meetings to communicate company permissions, government policies, and development plans
Carry out Social Impact Assessments (SIA) and Social and Environment Impact Assessments (SEIA) as required by AMDAL
Facilitate negotiations and gather feedback from all stakeholders
Document agreements with proper witnessing by government and community representatives
Land boundary discussions at Desa Tumbang Marikoi
Village meeting at Desa Batu Nyiwuh
Negotiations with villagers of Desa Tanjung Untung
Communities have the right to determine their own development priorities
FPIC is an ongoing process, not a one-time event
Consent can be withdrawn at any stage of the project
Accessible channels for community feedback and dispute resolution
"At AEP Nusantara Plantations, we believe that sustainable development must go hand-in-hand with respect for community rights. Our FPIC framework ensures that indigenous peoples and local communities have the right to determine their own development priorities and participate meaningfully in decisions that affect their lands, resources, and livelihoods. We are committed to building partnerships based on mutual respect, transparency, and shared prosperity."
